The Solar Chime is based on common parts and packaging
from the Solar Spinner product.
The Original Design
Current Motor Drive
The modified solar drive
Tiny holes drilled through the epoxy spaced 60 degrees apart
to allow the six individual chimes to hang around the perimeter
Parts Description
Solar Drive Unit - "Engine"
Epoxy encapsulated solar cell and motor
A ball "coupler" secures the ringer assembly to the motor shaft
Faceted beads are used to both catch the sun, hold the string away from the chime ( preventing sound dampening) and transitioning the support string from double to single thread.
Ball chain reduces the RPM as each ball is loosely linked and slips reducing speed and constantly resets the spinning motion.
Best tone per chime is achived if suspended at 22% of length.
A loop type striker is attached on the end of the ball chain. A softer sounding plastic filament for indoor use or and metal wire for more distinct sound for outdoors.
